Thesis Statement:
My animation is a study of metaphor in film noir style. The narrative is a morality tale that shows the weakness and ultimate demise of inner corruption in that it reviles the non-corrupt.
In this story, the reporter Oba represents the world's media. After reporting the corruption in every corner of the world he becomes the best in his business, therefore, when he saw the plant which symbolizes non-corruption, freedom, truth, freedom of speech and expression, Oba’s afraid that people will stop reading his news, so he decided to revile it. Ironically, the person who reveals the corruption finally becomes corrupted. It really reflects a line in the Batman; Dark Knight (2009), "you either die a hero, or live long enough to become a villain."

1. The newspaper on the wall in the beginning, is showing that Oba is the best reporter at the moment, everyone digs his news. He represents the world's media.
2. The flower still symbolized something. Something likes peace, freedom... the bright side of the world (optimism). The things that the media doesn't want people to see and think.
3. Therefore, the reporter Oba wants to kill the flower because it doesn't belong there. Whether the flower dies or not, it won't change the flow of the story. The flower is like a hidden message.
The main story is that Oba is trying to kill the flower, which is like the media is trying to hide the truth.

Defense:
I really didn't want to put a specific meaning for the flower, like the flower in Jiri Trnka's film "The hand" it didn't really tell what it's symbolizing, but it definitely means something that the artist was trying to save.
But if I have to, I would say it should mean “freedom”, and “truth”.

Treatment

Premise- Some truth can only be understood by one-self.

Not all Journalists are telling the truth; in fact, some are liars.

Character-

Mr. Oba is a freelance photographer/journalist. He is short, fat, and has a unique half-egg shaped body. He is calm and thoughtful, who cares about the world. Mr. Oba takes pictures anywhere he goes, so that one day he can share them with the world.

Story-

The most skilled roof top diving photographer is unveiling a whole new truth of the world.
No matter how difficult the circumstances are Mr. Oba wanted to reveal as much truth to the unknown world as he could with his camera. He always has a way to accomplish the mission. This time Oba went to the other side of the humanity in which the world of outlaw exists. He hopes to gather the finest images in the criminal town to show the world.

-One afternoon, Oba climbed to the rooftop of a building that seemed to be the filthiest in town. He then took out his tools and prepared himself…and jumped!

-Down Oba goes. During his fall, the shutter and flash continued. The first couple of shots weren’t as clear as he had expected. He continued on until the timing was correct. As he got the right set of timing, the audiences began to see the pictures clearly.

- Oba climbed back up, looked down, took a couple of steps to the left, adjusted himself to this new row of windows and this time, threw himself off the balcony! Every shots he took with this fall were perfect evidence of law breaking materials that he hoped for: Terrorists, Homicide, Mad Scientist, Drug Abuse…and so on.

-Suddenly during his fall, Oba fell through a glimpse of yellow green light. A light of life was what he felt. He thinks that such thing cannot exist in this town and so he assumed his camera flash broke down and gave it a little knock on the side.

*The light of life will be portrayed by using a healthy growing plant, mixed with ray of warm light.

-While Oba gave his camera a few more knocks, a couple of flashes went off and he felt the light of hope again. Oba again thinks that such thing shouldn’t exist in this wrecked town. And this was something he did not want people to know about. Oba climbs back to the floor with the plant, slowly reaching his hand closer to the stem of the living plant and bend it. All of a sudden the light of hope disappeared. Oba slowly lowered himself to other floors.

*Cold creepy ambience noise gets louder and louder in the room

-While he lowers himself to the other floors, he checked on the camera to make sure all the shots of life he captured were deleted. After deleting just a couple of shots, his camera showed “0 files”. He took a closer look of the camera screen, and all he saw was “0 file” and a black screen showing his reflection. The more attention he pays to see his reflection from the screen, the more he sees of a green vine wrapping around him. He looked at himself and nothing was on it. He found it strange and immediately looked back. This time he saw himself completely wrapped around by the vine. Suddenly he felt a force pulling him into the darkness. The next thing he knew, he was trapped inside his camera, falling and falling down into darkness.

-Until a sound was heard. The thudding sound from the camera, signifying it hit the ground plane of a building. A dark figure showed up. Someone in the area witnessed everything. The unknown character picked up the camera and saw a glimpse of Oba banging on the glass. The image wasn’t very clear because the screen is cracked.

-The unknown character slowly walked away into the far distance and threw the camera into the trashcan.

*The End.

Project View from the Lens will be made into a 3D animated short. The length of this project will be 2-3 minutes. The film will be completed in 3D Maya. It will have a contrast look of style similar to the film Tekkon Kinkreet. The color palettes in this film are very interesting and eye-catching. I wish that by using them as my visual style, this short will capture more people’s attention.
The scenario in the story is an event that happens every day in our society either in internet, text books, televisions, or news papers. People with power are twisting the minds of others. The purpose of this film is to remind the audience that not every story we hear or see is the truth. Believe in what you believe, listen to the heart around the world instead of living a life in a cubical. Walk out the door and listen to the world and not the voice from a journalist.

Level Concept Document
Back Story:
A Sewage Plant built in 1974 in Hill County, where everyone living in the area, was once very proud of the construction. Until 1985, it was abandoned when the government decided to build a much larger and better Sewage Plant in another location, in order to support a much bigger population. The abandoned plant was used as a bomb shelter or children’s playground. Due to many disappearances of children the place became a restricted area.

Game Play:
A whole abandoned underground sewage treatment plant divided into three parts: [Section A], [Section B], and [Section C].
You are the main character trying to find out why everyone is avoiding your next- door neighbor’s house. One day you decided to walk over and find out the truth behind the entire mystery. In your neighbor’s backyard you discover a storage room leading down to the basement, which is connected to the abandoned sewage plant on the other side of the wall. In the Control/Meeting room of [Section A] you discover that the door leading to [Section B] is locked. Searching around [Section A] you manage to find a crowbar hanging on the ladder of [1].
Slowly making your way into [Section B] and exploring this new section, a power supply box [6] is found. Once it’s turned on, the automatic door in [2] is set to a complete lock down for an hour. In this long hour you manage to make your way to [Section C] hoping that there’s another door leading you back to ground level; unfortunately, you encounter your missing neighbor.

This project I ended up using one of my previous 3D animation "Project 2- Thrust & Float Animation". I did a lot of render passes and Photoshop clean up and tweaking to get the style match the style I chose which is "Happy Tree Friends."

Over all I think I am happy about the style. It match OK I think. The character is the only thing that bugged me because its not any cuter than the Happy Tree Friends Character (Character from highend3d).

Topic- Cross the road

Character- Tito is a fifth grade student about 11 years old. He is a quiet kid, but gets grumpy easily. He is proud of himself when he follows rules. He is unable to understand why it is so hard for others to follow the simple rules of life. He dreams about a perfect world where everyone follows the rules, but at the end he walked himself into a tragedy.

Premise-

*Rules are meant to be broken that's why people break them!

Story (black humor)-

It was a hot summer day. Not many people were out walking in this hot weather. Across the street the Pedestrian sign went from green to red. Tito stood still with an old lady across the street and waited for the light to turn green. A couple cars passed by a worker showed up next to Tito. A couple of seconds later, the worker crossed the street ignoring the stop sign. Tito talked to the old lady next to him unhappily while watching the man’s back slowly reaching the other end of the road.

“Look, look at them go. These people already look ugly in the world, yet they still don’t follow the simple traffic rules. Clearly they are disturbing the public order and affecting the amenities of the city!”

“These people should be lock up in the low life society and never let out!”

“Like pigs, best to stay inside the pig fence…”

Not long after Tito finish talking to himself. The old lady with crutches starts to cross the street.

A long pause from Tito, “…………….you got to be kidding me.” A dark side of him emerges from him wishing the old lady to get hit by a car.

“These old farts, they should just stay lying on their bed and wait for their time to come, but instead, they risk their lives on this traffic light and give other people troubles!”

“They should be hit by a car right there just to reduce the burden of this country! Ha ha ha ha….”

Mean while he talks to himself. “Looks like there aren’t many worthy people like me in this society… looks like the important role of building a future and making history…I will be the one to create them!”

The pedestrian light turns green. Tito starts to cross the road proudly, all full of himself.

While Tito was so proud a truck came flying down. The truck honked him out of his happy moment. Tito thought it was the end of his life. The truck passed, he managed to jump out of the way.

Tito all shaken looks up at the sign. It started to blink and then it went red. He realized he’s a step away to the other side. He looks back check the distant and thinking about what happened earlier on. Still following the rule he ran back to the other side as fast as possible but on the other side of the road a van came flying down and the edge of the car nailed the student’s back pack and dragged him off the screen.

Character Development- Character Description

Back Story

A grown up boy name Leohart, raised by a group of priest in Shumi Village. After the death of his mother (killed by the forest creatures), Leohart vowed to stop the madness of the Tree Gods by destroying them.

Leohart was born in a village called Closest to Heaven. A once a beautiful town with a gigantic shen-mu tree covering the entire village symbolizing the tree of hope. One day that hope vanished, 3 evil spirits possessed the three giant shen-mu trees around the world and claim themselves the Tree Gods, the tree god of sky, lake, and fire.

The tree God of Sky lives on a high plateau called Closest to Heaven, on a tall cliff close to the sky. He has the power to control the wind in the region. He releases his rage on the villagers by destroying their crops and houses.

The tree God of Lake lives in the Land of Lakes, a place of all lakes. It punishes the villagers by dripping poisonous liquid into the water to weaken the villagers.

The tree God of Fire lives in the land called Land of Hell, a volcanic area where no life can survive. He destroys the nearby land by slowly burning everything and eventually the entire village becomes part Hell.

It was after the evil spirit posses the village’s tree of hope when they began to take over the land. Leohart’s father and a group of male villager stood up and fight for their land. Leohart’s father asked the mother to take the 3-year-old Leohart and leave the village as far away as possible knowing there was no hope. After days of travel, not knowing which direction they had been going, Leohart and his mother came to a town called Shumi Village.

Tired and weary, the mother searched for a place to stay. At last she went to the church and begged for a place to stay. A group of properly dressed priests came by and invited them in and changed their clothes. After that they listened to her story and at the end let her and the child stay. There Leohart grew up living a whole new life not knowing who his father was.

Character Sociology

Leohart was born in Closest to Heaven, a continent ruled by the Tree God of Sky. His father went missing when he was 3. Leohart and his mother left Closest to Heaven and traveled to Shumi Village. The only few villages left that hasn’t been ruled by the evil spirit.

In Shumi Village the family was invited to join the Catholic religion and where the church taught and trained Leohart everything about the religion, martial art, sword fight, spell… etc. everything there was to pass down to him.

Character Psychology

Leohart is now old enough to fight for justice. But at his current age he simply doesn’t care. He believes that everyone has their own way of living; there is no point to create conflict. Leohart pretty much doesn’t care about anything and lives his own life. He is a very easy going person that never once refused others’ requests, but he is hard to get in touch with due to overwhelmingly tight church schedule.

Leohart is very calm. He is a great listener with great observations, and great skills. He is recognized as one of the villager’s Heroes (protector).

Leohart is very intelligent but he didn’t care much about learning. Yet if he put his heart into something he loves he will memorize it instantly. However, there is one thing the church didn’t like about him, but couldn’t help it, and that is Leohart’s envy toward enemies that are stronger than him. He likes to feel the challenge, and this personality of his can only be seen in battle. The Priests thinks that it might be due to his current age, hoping eventually he will change when he gets older. So they let him stay that way.
